Notice to Saanich Peninsula Residents

Regarding Bicycle Event, Sunday, July 17th

The 25th Annual Victoria Half and Sprint Triathlon will be held at Elk Lake on Sunday, July 17th. This event consists of a 1.9km swim in Elk Lake, 90km bike (2 laps) through the roads of Saanich, Central Saanich and North Saanich followed by a 21km run (2 laps) around Elk and Beaver Lakes.  Unlike the Ironman event held this past May, this event is much smaller and is comprised of mostly local participants with others traveling in from around BC.  The event will serve as the BC Provincial Championships and proceeds from the event go to local youth sport development right here on the Peninsula.

Please help us host this year's race by taking note of the following information in regards to the Bike Course and possible delays:

you follow their directions in order to maintain your safety and the safety

of the athletes and volunteers.  We expect delays at intersections to be

relatively short so we appreciate your patience to allow the cyclists to safely pass.

We respectfully request that you observe the following recommendations

in order to minimize congestion:

  • PLEASE take extra care when driving on the race route and entering roadways as the athletes will be sharing the road with vehicles.  The athletes have been instructed that roads have not been closed and to proceed with caution.

  • If you live on the race route (see map), please park your vehicle in your driveway or on a side street if possible.

  • Give yourself extra time during race morning to reach your destination.
